A week with Russian national teams. Summary

Senior Russian national team

Tournament: Swedish Hockey Games

Result: 1st place

Russia - Finland – 2:1

Sweden - Russia – 2:4

Russia - Czech Republic – 4:2

The third stage of the Euro Hockey tour took place in Saint Petersburg and Sweden. Russia beat Finland 2:1 at Saint Petersburg's Yubileyny Arena, before defeating both Sweden and the Czech Repubkic 4:2 in Gothenburg. Three matches, three victories and another trophy! With this victory, Oleg Znarok's team have already officially won the 2016/2017 Euro Hockey Tour.

Russian Olympic team

Tournament: Slovakia Cup

Result: 2nd place

Slovakia - Russia – 1:3

The Russian Olympic team, made up of players under the age of 25, took part in the Slovakia Cup. The team put on a good performance, beating Slovakia in one out of two matches and seeing off Belarus 4:1 in the third place playoff. Forward Maxim Kazakov had a three point game in that particular match (2+1),

Russian senior women's national team

Tournament: Three Nations

Result: 3rd place

Finland - Russia – 7:2

Sweden - Russia – 4:0

Finland - Russia – 7:1

Unfortunately, the Russian women's national team, weakened by the loss of a number of key players due to the ongoing 2017 Universiade, had a nightmare at the Finnish Four Nations. The team lost all three matches, not ever getting into any of those games. 

Russian student men's national team

Tournament: 2017 Winter Universiade

Result: Gold medal

South Korea - Russia – 0:14

Russia - Latvia – 7:1

Russia - Japan – 14:0

Russia - Japan – 9:2

Russia - Canada – 4:1

Kazakhstan -Russia – 0:1

At the end of January, the men's Russian student national team competed at the 2017 Winter Universiade, which was hosted by Kazakhstan. Our team breezed through the tournament, winning all matches comfortably before a tight 1:0 triumph over the Kazakhs in the final! Daniil Ilin netted the crucial goal in that game.

Russian student women's national team

Tournament: 2017 Winter Universiade

Result: Gold medal

USA - Russia – 1:7

Russia - Japan – 10:1

Russia - China – 10:1

Canada - Russia – 1:4

Just like the men's side, the women went all the way to retain their Universiade title! The team were rarely challenged, easily winning their matches including a confident 4:1 beating of Canada in the showpiece final.

Russia U18

Tournament: Five Nations

Result: 4th place

Sweden - Russia – 3:1

Finland - Russia – 1:6

Russia - USA – 3:5

Czech Republic - Russia – 4:0

In Sweden, the under 18 Russian national team lost three of their Four Nations matches, only thrashing Finland by a large score of 6:1. Fourth place is not what the coaches had in mind before the competition began.

Russia U17

Tournament: Five Nations

Result: 5th place

Russia - USA – 3:4

Sweden - Russia – 0:6

Russia - Finland – 1:2

Czech Republic - Russia – 2:1

There's something about these Five Nations tournaments. Russia's under 17 outfit had an equally poor competition in the Czech Republic, dropping three out of the four consecutive matches. Work required indeed.

Russia U16

Four Nations: Four Nations

Result: 1st place

Russia - Finland – 1:3

Russia - Czech Republic – 5:1

Sweden - Russia – 1:4

Nevertheless, the under 16's impressed at their home Four Nations, winning the tournament in Veliky Novgorod. After losing their opening match to Finland 1:3, the team regrouped, winning three games in a row to become champions!
