In Riga, the Russian Olympic (B) national team played their second friendly match against hosts Latvia. Head coach Oleg Bratash changed the goalkeeper for this game, swapping Andrei Kareev for the more experienced Ilya Sorokin.
Coming off a 5:0 victory on Saturday, Russia made a confident start against the Latvians. Zakhar Arzamastsev opened the scoring midway through the period, drawing his stick back for a heavy slap shot which took a small deflection. Just one minute later, Russia doubled their money. Anton Burdasov sprinted down the right wing, took on a wrister and caught the goalkeeper cold - 2:0.
After a scoreless second period, Latvia made it a one goal game in the third. Edgars Kulda was the scorer, neatly tipping into the net. The Latvians piled on the pressure in the closing stages, but thanks to some superb Ilya Sorokin saves, Russia held on to earn a 2:1 victory!
